Frequently Asked Questions
Is this the same as 23 Things? No, this is a companion to LISD 23 Things. Teachers interested in broadening their understanding of web-based technologies and how to better integrate technology into the curriculum are encouraged to take both courses. For more information, a comparison chart is available.
Who should take this course? Any teachers should be able to learn these technology applications if they are problem-solvers and willing to keep at it. Participants should be self-starters, willing to be persistent in exploring new avenues as independent learners. The benefit is being caught up-to-date, at least for today, with technologies every teacher should know about and use. All teachers will want to know what’s up-to-date in educational techology and be able to use some of these tools for communicating with parents, collaborating with peers, and making learning more engaging for students. Everyone, regardless of teaching assignment, should be able to take something back to use for positively impacting teaching and learning. If each learner ends up with a few favorites that fit their teaching style and will work well for their specific students, and then will take these back to the classroom and learn to use first these two or three web tools very effectively to impact communication or collaboration, teaching and learning, then a great deal will have been accomplished through this course.
Will the 21 Things be offered again? Yes, this course will be offered regularly through LISD Professional Development Center.
Do I have to do all 21 projects if I only want SCECHs? Yes, for any credit all of the work is required, including submission of the blog post links and attendance at all sessions, both face-to-face and virtual.
I would like to learn only some of the topics, but not take the whole course for credit. Do I still need to register for the sessions?
It is not necessary to be registered for the class to benefit from the online learning. Videos and assignments are always available online for anyone to review. Lenawee 21 in 2014-15 offers three learning paths and participants may choose to try just one of them instead of registering for the full course.
I have other questions about the content of the course. Who can I ask?
Please direct general course/curriculum inquiries to [email protected] at Lenawee ISD.
May I work at my own pace to complete the 21 Things? If participants are not taking the course for credit, activities and videos may be completed and viewed "at your own pace." However, it is recommended that credit participants keep up so that they are ready for the topics presented in the three Checkpoint sessions.
I have questions about paying for SHU credit. What do I need to do? Siena Heights University has approved "21 Things for the 21st Century Educator" - TED 599 for ONE (1), TWO (2) or THREE (3) semester hours of graduate credit, in accordance with our agreement with Siena. (Please note: Per our agreement, no letter grades can be issued - this class is offered as Pass/Fail only.) Interested participants must mail in a check or money order to the LISD Professional Development Center for $268 per credit hour (based on current fees for Fall 2014, subject to change in future terms), made payable to Siena Heights University, together with the registration paperwork, which will be available through LISD Professional Development Center for each term the course is offered. Further inquiries on the graduate credit process can be directed to Kathy Campbell, LISD Professional Development Center, at 517-265-1619 or [email protected].
Is there a cost for SCECHs? A $2.50 processing fee, payable to MIEM, will be implemented starting May 1, 2010. Additional information regarding the SB-CEU Program and downloadable forms for non-traditional credit activities are available at:www.lisd.us/SBCEU.
